Kenner police arrested a New Orleans man Wednesday after accusing him of trying to have sex with a detective posing as an underage girl in an online chat room.
Brett Lachmann, 28, was charged with computer-aided solicitation for sexual purposes and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
He faces the same charges in East Baton Rouge Parish because the state Attorney General participated in the investigation, said detective Brian McGregor, a Kenner Police Department spokesman.
Lachmann had worked as a counselor for the Christian-based Greater New Orleans Teen Challenge, located at 1905 Franklin Ave. The program provides drug and alcohol counseling to men ages 17 and up. Lachmann lived at the facility.
Police said that a Kenner detective logged into an online chat room on March 25 posing as a juvenile female. Lachmann began chatting with the detective and began a courtship of sorts.
Police say Lachmann, who logged on as "smoothtalker20026," used a Web cam to send a digital feed of his genitals, and also sent picture files of them. Then Lachmann asked the detective to have sex, police said.
Kenner Police Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information concerning this incident, or having information regarding anyone exploiting children, illegally possessing or selling child pornography, or online enticement of children for sexual acts, to contact the Kenner Police.
