Smug substitute teacher busted

Hudson -- A substitute teacher who most recently worked for Akron schools has been charged by both Hudson and Stow police for allegedly having unlawful sexual conduct with a 14-year-old Hudson girl police say he met online.

Hudson police arrested Albert J. Calabrese III, 24, of Kent, May 21 and charged him with sexual imposition, a misdemeanor. Calabrese was then transferred to the Stow Police Department, where he was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a felony.

According to Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court records, Calabrese is free on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond pending a June 3 preliminary hearing before Magistrate John W. Clark.

Calabrese declined to comment when reached by phone Wednesday.

According to police spokespersons, Calabrese allegedly talked to the girl via the Internet and met her at a location on Darrow Road in Hudson May 17. Police say the two then went to a parking lot on Darrow Road in Stow where the alleged incident occurred. According to police records, the girl's mother reported the incident to the Hudson Police Department May 21.

Akron City Schools Executive Director of Communications Karen Ingraham said Calabrese was hired as a substitute teacher for the school system in November 2007. She said the district is no longer using his services.

Ingraham said he worked as a math teacher for several middle schools. Most recently, he had a long-term substitute assignment at Buchtel High School from March 31 to May 21.
